About

SAGE: Sponsors and Advocates for Guided Expeditions

Mission

Our mission is to repay the sacrifices of our nation’s Veterans with unique outdoor experiences through public sponsorship and guiding expertise.

What we do

Our goal is to do our part to give back to veterans by offering them a variety of guided hunting and fishing experiences completely free of charge. To enhance the positive impact on individual veterans, we aim to pair every veteran we help with a public sponsor for their guided experience. For example: any member of the general public can purchase our services and become a sponsor. In doing so, they will fund their adventure, as well as sponsor an adventure for a veteran.

We hope to use the vessel of hunting and fishing camaraderie to create a bond between veteran and non-veteran outdoorsmen. This bond will make lasting relationships to help veterans find peace in the outdoors, expand understanding of veteran sacrifices with their public sponsor, and steward the hunting and fishing culture which is unique to our nation.

Why we do it

American servicemembers and veterans have made countless sacrifices on behalf of American citizens. As veterans ourselves, we know the depths of sacrifice, from risks taken in combat to sacrificing personal and family relationships to meet the demands of military service. This sacrifice has left a debt with the American people that can never be repaid. We started this organization to volunteer our expertise and share our passion for the outdoors with veterans as a way to give back to those who sacrificed for our country.

Our team

We are operated 100% by the unpaid volunteers listed below:

Grant Reimers – President and Founder (US ARMY – Active)

Since my family introduced me to the sport of hunting 20 years ago, it has been the gateway to the most amazing experiences imaginable. I have stomped around the Nevada hills most of my life and been fortunate enough to learn the intricacies of the species we pursue. I now share these experiences with my wife and son, and bring my griff Darby along whenever I can. I have been guiding in Nevada for four years, and hope to bring my knowledge and passion to our sponsor and veteran hunters.

Though hunting is my passion, Soldiering has been my career for the last 12 years. I hold the specialties of Combat Engineer and Motor Transport Operator and was blessed with the opportunity to earn my Ranger Tab in 2018. During my service, I have seen close friends at their worst, and hope through SAGE I can help fellow veterans find peace in the pursuit of wild creatures in wild places.

Robert “Michael” Baker – Vice President (US ARMY – Active)

I’m a passionate outdoors enthusiast with 13 years of experience hunting across all of Northern Nevada’s beautiful landscapes. I love to share the knowledge I’ve gained over the years, and thoroughly enjoy seeing what a positive impact hunting can have.

Throughout my 13 years in the Nevada Army National Guard I’ve dedicated myself to caring for the soldiers around me, and ensuring that no one gets left behind.

In my free time you can often find me backpacking my daughter across the Rubies with my wife, shooting ducks with our black lab Maggie, or hot spring hunting out in rural Nevada

Martin Reimers – Treasurer

I come from a Nevada sportsman family enjoying all things outdoors.  My father and grandfather introduced me to hunting and fishing as a youngster, and I managed to pass this passion on to my family.  The memories of our escapades are among my favorites.

I work inside as an architect and businessman, but I am always looking forward to the river or the lake or the mountain, ready for more adventures and memories.

My lovely wife and I are proud Army parents and are enthusiastic supporters of our servicemen and veterans.  It is my honor to be involved with SAGE Veteran Outfitters where I can support veterans and share my love of the outdoors.

Derek Burke – Secretary (US ARMY – Veteran)

I’m a proud husband to an amazing wife, father to two beautiful children, and a passionate advocate for fellow veterans. I served in the Army National Guard for 12 years, with a combat deployment to Afghanistan in 2012-2013. After a fulfilling military career, I was honorably discharged in 2022.

My love for hunting began in 2011 with waterfowl hunting, and since then, it has become an integral part of my life. Over the years, I’ve honed my skills and found peace and camaraderie in the outdoors. Now, I share these experiences with my four-year-old black lab, Mater, who is my loyal companion on every hunt.

As a member of the board of SAGE Veteran Outfitters, I’m committed to helping fellow veterans reconnect with nature, heal, and build a sense of community through hunting. Our mission is to create a space where veterans can find support, share their stories, and experience the healing power of the outdoors.
